I selected this book because it came highly recommended by People magazine (don't laugh). In the past I have really enjoyed the books that have been recommended to me by People. I enjoyed this book as well, but I didn't like it as much as I expected to. The book is written well and I enjoyed hearing this woman's story, but as a whole I didn't find the book to be as powerfully impacting as the review suggested. I was also somewhat frustrated because the book's dust jacket gives the impression that the story is mainly about the author's sister, but the sister's story doesn't really take off until close to the end of the book. The majority of the book is the author sharing with us her own struggle through an abusive marriage. The woman's story is certainly interesting and worth reading, just not quite what I expected from the book.
